Anne Grout is a potter, historian, and spinner here in State College, PA. She has developed a magnificent line of spindles from her knowledge of historical designs and symbols, and has refined them to be some of the best on the market. These spindles have excellent angular momentum for their weight, allowing them to spin rapidly with little effort. They are made in ranges from the finest laceweight to worsted, with a few custom spindles made larger, and can be either top or bottom whorl. Several of them can also be used as support spindles.
Anne makes these individually, and is trying to keep up with demand. Please allow 3-4 weeks for these to arrive.

Ann Grout spindles are finely crafted ceramic spindles that are durable and beautiful. They spin exceptionally well, being balanced for the maximum angular momentum possible for the weight of the spindle. The spindles are all the same price, but the weight of the spindle determines what size yarn it will spin best. If the spindle is too heavy for the yarn, the yarn will break as you spin, whereas if it is too light, the spindle will tend to try to back-spin. We have categorized the different spindles according to the weight of yarn that they spin. |
